Tamagawa University and Taiko Group - Millennium Stage (April 6, 2017)
Thundering taiko drumming meets traditional Japanese dance as nearly 30 drummers and dancers from Tamagawa University Dance and Taiko Group take the stage. The performers make up one of Japan’s top-ranking taiko groups coming out of the premier arts university in Japan. Tamagawa University Dance and Taiko Group has been touring the world since 1961, visiting Mexico, England, Greece, Canada, Malaysia, Russia, Indonesia, Africa, and the United States. The troupe has toured extensively in East Coast since 2003, including performances at the Kennedy Center, the National Cherry Blossom Festival., the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia, and the NBA Half-time show at the Wachovia Center. This is their 12th annual East Coast Tour that stretches from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. and New York. Tamagawa University Dance and Taiko Group recently won third prize in a competition against 450 other groups at the Tokyo International Taiko contest.
